FAIRVIEW, Ala. — Fairview played in its first games since last Tuesday when it hosted Brewer in a pair of huge area games. The girls game saw the Lady Aggies roll past the Lady Patriots 60-35 while in the boys’ game, the Aggies fell in a tough contest with the Patriots 69-60.

Fairview 60 – Brewer 35 (varsity girls)

The first quarter saw Fairview dominate Brewer on both sides of the court as they took a 19-5 lead into the second quarter. The second period was more of the same as the Lady Aggies got some more players in the scoring column and wound up taking a 37-15 advantage into the locker room. The Lady Patriots slowly started to find their rhythm offensively as they scored 14 points in the third period, but Fairview (10-6, 1-1) made sure that they kept them at arm’s length, scoring 20 in the quarter, to increase their lead to 30 at 57-27 after three, and wound up taking the game in dominating fashion, 60-35.

All but two Lady Aggie players found the scoring column, led by Molly McKelvy and Jaycee Aleman, who each finished with 10. Maddie Yeager added eight points. Daisy Manasco ended up with seven. Morgan Lindsay, Emma Garcia, and Jayla Gorham each chipped in with five.

Brewer 69 – Fairview 60 (varsity boys)

Fairview looked to bounce back after their loss to Decatur Heritage last Tuesday and it was a low-scoring affair between them and Brewer in the first half. The Patriots held a 34-30 advantage over the Aggies with 4:05 remaining in the third quarter and an Owen Yarbrough three-point play made it a 36-34 game 32 seconds later. Brewer answered right back with seven in a row to stretch the Aggie deficit to 43-34. Fairview made it a 43-39 contest after a basket down low by J.T. White and Yarbrough scored five straight points to tie the game up at 44, but Brewer broke the tie by scoring back-to-back baskets to make it 48-44. A Yarbrough trey cut the deficit to 48-47 going into the final period.

Baskets by White and Yarbrough gave Fairview a 51-48 lead. After the Patriots scored six in a row to get the lead right back at 54-51, Peyton Bailey converted on a three-point play to tie the game at 54 with 5:02 remaining in the contest. Brewer broke the tie once more as they scored five in a row to take a five-point lead. The Aggies cut it to three multiple times, but they couldn’t quite get the lead right back as the Patriots nailed a pair of clutch free throws, plus a three, and the Aggies fell just short at the end, 69-60.

Yarbrough led the way for Fairview (3-11, 0-2) with a game-high 28 points. White added 16 points and Bailey ended up with 10.

Fairview will host Guntersville in a pair of huge area games on Friday night. The Lady Aggies will look to force a two-way tie for first with a win over the Lady Wildcats and the Aggies will look to pull off the upset at home.
