SOUTH VINEMONT, Ala. – Charlotte Cosper was appointed Thursday night to fill the seat left vacant on the South Vinemont Town Council when J.D. Marcum died in November. Cosper will fill place 3.
The council held a special-called meeting Thursday night and started by asking for nominations. Only two people were nominated. Councilman Chris Thompson nominated Cosper and Mayor Radginal Dodson nominated Jerry Smith.
A roll call vote was then held for each nominee with Cosper receiving a 3-2 vote. Thompson, Councilwoman Sonya Adams and Councilwoman Bonnie Goodwin voted in favor of Cosper. Councilwoman Sonya Copeland and Dodson voted for Smith.
A resolution was approved unanimously following the vote appointing Cosper to the position. Cosper will be sworn in at the next regular council meeting scheduled for Jan. 12 and 6 p.m. at Vinemont Town Hall.
Cosper said of her new role, “I am excited. It’s something I have never done, but I look forward to working with everybody and doing a good job. I’ve got a lot to learn but I hope they will teach me.”
