CULLMAN, Ala. – Cullman Regional on Tuesday reported it is currently treating 75 COVID-19 positive patients, with 20 of those patients now on ventilators. There is also one non-COVID patient on a ventilator. That means the hospital’s Critical Care Unit, which normally has 12 beds, is operating at 175% capacity, and adjustments have had to be made to accommodate the overflow.
“We have put all the additional patients in our fourth-floor unit,” said Cullman Regional Vice President, Marketing Lindsey Dossey. “It requires extra staff to man those beds since it’s not in an ICU facility, which is a challenge, but our team is amazing, and they are doing an exceptional job caring for these patients.”
According to the Alabama Department of Public Health (ADPH), Cullman County added 45 new confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the last 24 hours, with 4,901 cases confirmed across the county since the beginning of the pandemic. Of those, 1,035 were confirmed in the last 14 days. Statewide, the ADPH reported 2,020 new confirmed cases in the last 24 hours, with 50,954 in the last 14 days.
The ADPH also reported a record high 2,804 patients currently hospitalized across the state.
