Despite a very hectic week of helping her husband prepare for Christmas Eve, Mrs. Claus has taken time to schedule some visits to Cullman over the last few days. She has been handing out goodies and talking to folks around town, including a stop by several businesses and organizations. Mrs. Claus even sat down with The Tribune for a rare and exclusive interview to help us learn more about her family and life at the North Pole.

So Mrs. Claus, are you ready for the big day?

Christmastime is a busy season at the North Pole. We work all year to prepare for the big day!

What does Santa do the morning of Christmas Eve to get ready for the big night?

I let Santa sleep a little late on Christmas Eve morning. When he wakes up, I feed him warm oatmeal and make sure he takes his vitamins. He has many houses to visit with lots of cookies and milk to eat so he doesn’t eat a big breakfast.

Do you call him Santa, Kris, Babe…?

Well, most of the time I call him Santa Baby! We both have nicknames for each other. Santa calls me Sugar because of all the sweets I make every year.

What do you do once he leaves to deliver all the toys and goodies?

I go into our Santa Radar Room and watch Santa closely. I can see everywhere he goes all across the world. I can even see how the reindeer are holding up.

What plans do you have once he returns?

Well, he has a busy night, so I have his pajamas warm by the fireplace and his slippers by his chair. We usually talk about how his night went and about all the awesome cookies and treats all the sweet children left for him.

What did children ask for this year?

Most of the boys wanted the newest PlayStation or Xbox. The little ones asked for CoComelon and the girls asked for the classics- baby dolls, bicycles and Barbies. LOL Dolls are still a big item, as well as Paw Patrol.

Is anyone in Cullman on the naughty list?

We do have a few from Cullman on Santa’s Naughty List. Santa tries to give everyone a second chance, so they STILL have time to be placed on the Nice List. Our Naughty List changes every day.

What time is your husband scheduled to be in the Cullman area on Christmas Eve?

The times can vary depending on the weather, so we are watching north Alabama closely right now. If it’s raining, foggy or snowing, it could be any time between 8 p.m. to 3 a.m.; it’s hard to know. Of course, Rudolph will help guide Santa regardless of the weather and Santa loves and is always talking about the beautiful Christmas lights in Cullman County.

Do you enjoy Hallmark or Lifetime Christmas movies?

We have several movies we love to watch. I really like to watch “Christmas at Dollywood.” That place is beautiful at Christmastime. Santa likes to watch all of the Santa Claus movies. He also likes to watch “Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer.”

What do you enjoy doing in your spare time?

I always like to bake goodies year-round. This year, I made a lot of these new treats, maybe you’ve heard about them, hot cocoa bombs! I also like to volunteer at local food banks like Cullman Caring for Kids to help make sure no one goes to bed hungry. I love to play dress up with the elves and I love my hats.

Do you have any other family or siblings at the North Pole?

I have two sisters and they work in the bakery with me.

Mrs. Claus, do you have a first name?

I try not to share all my secrets, but I will share this one with you. My name is Holly, but I love being Mrs. Claus. Santa and I met in 1793 on Christmas Day.

What is your favorite part of Christmas?

I enjoy spreading the Christmas spirit every chance I get. I want everyone to remember this- always know the real reason behind Christmas. It’s Jesus’ birthday: For unto us a child is born, to us a son is given… Isaiah 9:6-7.

Before heading back to help Santa finish the preparations for the biggest night of the year, Mrs. Claus let this message, “Merry Christmas to everyone, and kids, remember to go to bed early and leave out some cookies and milk. Due to the pandemic, hand sanitizer might not be a bad idea this year!”
