GOOD HOPE, Ala. – The Christmas spirit is alive and well at Nexan Building Products in Good Hope. For at least 10 years, the staff at Nexan has been giving back to the community by making sure children have a very merry Christmas. This year, the company bought wish list items for 12 children from Good Hope Schools through the schools’ Christmas Love Program.

Good Hope Mayor Jerry Bartlett and workers from the City on Wednesday morning picked up 12 huge boxes, six giant teddy bears and four new bikes from the company.

Nexan Office Manager Crystal Carpenter, employees Christie Burrow, Christy Gowens and other staff said they look forward to shopping for the kids every year. They met bright and early Black Friday and shopped into the evening.

Carpenter said, “Normally we do Thanksgiving, go home and take a nap before meeting Thursday night for all the sales, but this year, stores weren’t open Thursday.”

The ladies loaded up two large vehicles with toys, winter coats, teddy bears and bicycles.

This year we were shopping for younger kids, so they asked for mostly toys and that made it fun,” added Carpenter. “A couple even asked for Barbie, and that was exciting.”

Each child will also receive a new winter coat.

The City of Good Hope will once again be giving turkeys along with the toys donated by Nexan as part of Christmas Love. Bartlett said the City plans to donate 50 turkeys this year for families in need.
