James Renee Anderson passed away Dec. 7, 2020. Renee was born in Cullman County on Prospect Mountain in 1926 to Clarence and Pearl Stewart Anderson who preceded him in death.
He had two sisters and one brother. He was married for almost 60 years to Alice Jean Sawyer of Arkadelphia.
He is survived by his son M. Kent Anderson; his daughter-in-law Judy Newberry Anderson; two grandsons James R. Anderson II and Harold Stewart Anderson; a sister Mary Kate Rowell; a sister-in-law June Sawyer Anderson; two nephews Rodney K. Anderson and Steven R. Rowell; and a host of other relatives and friends.
His brother Billy K. Anderson and sister Betty Jean Anderson preceded him in death.
Renee was a deacon in the Baptist church, serving for many years at Highlands Baptist Church in Huntsville. He was a 32nd degree Mason and a member of the Scottish Rite.
Renee was a teacher and principal at Arkadelphia and Prospect schools in the 1940s and 1950s and then spent over 30 years in the lumber business, working for over 20 years for Moore-Handley and later for the L&L Lumber Company for his longtime friends Larry and the late George Landman.
In light of the pandemic a celebration of life will be scheduled later. A private burial will be at the Arkadelphia cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations are requested to the Cullman, Chattanooga or Huntsville area food banks to help the needy.
