HANCEVILLE, Ala. – The fourth annual Civitan Tinsel Trail and Tree Lighting Ceremony at Hanceville’s Veterans Memorial Park are scheduled for Friday, Dec. 4 at 5 p.m. Visitors can already enjoy the Christmas displays around the park’s walking trail now through Jan. 1.
Brenda Carter with the Hanceville Civitans said she hopes the community will come out for the short ceremony before heading downtown for Hanceville’s Christmas Open House.
“At 5, we will have a short ceremony. We will tell the Christmas story and (have) some entertainment before the mayor addresses the crowd,” said Carter, who said Rev. James Fields is scheduled to emcee the festivities. “Christmas at Veterans Park is about Jesus being born. Santa Claus won’t be there. He’ll be downtown. We separate that. This is about the Christmas story.”
She continued, “After we light the tree, we will dismiss to go downtown for Christmas Open House. We (will) have hot chocolate and cookies in front of the library with Christmas music playing.”
Santa Claus will be at the library ready to take photos with the kids. Downtown merchants will remain open late.
Carter said this is the biggest year so far for the Hanceville Civitans’ Tinsel Trail. She said she is thrilled by this year’s increased participation.
“We have doubled our walk this year from what we had last year,” she smiled. “We have 26 participants right now, and we are still getting them. We want this to grow and we want this to go all the way around the pond and the walking trails.”
Carter said businesses and individuals are welcome to sponsor 10×10 plots at Veterans Park for $25. The Hanceville Civitans will provide a sign for the space. “You can decorate them any way you want to!”
