HOLLY POND, Ala. — Fairview traveled to take on Holly Pond in Tuesday night hoops action and both the Aggies and Lady Aggies came away victorious, 70-44 and 62-49, respectively.
Fairview 70 – Holly Pond 44 (varsity girls)
Five different Fairview players found the scoring column as they took a 16-9 lead after one. The second quarter saw Holly Pond play solid on both sides of the ball, outscoring the Lady Aggies 19-15 and they trailed by just three points at the half, 31-28.
It was a close third quarter for both teams as Fairview couldn’t pull away from a feisty Lady Bronco squad as they took a 47-41 lead into the final period. The Lady Aggies turned up the pressure on the defensive side of the ball and went off offensively, outscoring Holly Pond 23-3, to turn a six-point lead into a 26-point win when the game came to an end.
Molly McKelvy had a huge game for Fairview (2-0), finishing with a game-high 24 points. Emma Garcia added 10 points. Daisy Manasco and Morgan Lindsay each ended up with nine, and Jacy Gorham added eight.
For Holly Pond (0-1), Kaylee Stallings drilled five threes on her way to a 17-point night. Sarah Finley added 10 and Bai Winder ended up with six.
Fairview 62 – Holly Pond 49 (varsity boys)
Fairview and Holly Pond traded baskets and leads to start off the game. Fairview held a slim 12-10 lead after a Landon Tweedie made shot and Jayden Perkins scored on back-to-back baskets down low to give the Broncos a 14-12 lead late in the first. Back-to-back made shots by Preston Ryan and Tweedie would give the Aggies the lead right back at 16-14 after one.
Fairview started to create some distance from Holly Pond, scoring the first seven points, to stretch its lead to 23-14. Parker Sellers hit a trey for the Broncos for its first basket with 5:15 remaining in the first half and a Landon Rowell free throw made it a 23-18 game. A huge three-point play by Jack Brown pushed Fairview’s lead to 28-20 late in the second quarter and he later added a trey to make it a 35-24 game. Levi Boatright got the last basket of the half as his short jumper cut the Holly Pond deficit to 36-29 at the half.
The third quarter was a low-scoring affair as at one point, Fairview pushed its lead back to double-digits at 42-31 after six straight points by Owen Yarbrough and Tweedie. A Brody Bagwell layup cut the Fairview lead to 44-36 going into the final period. After Brown hit a shot to make it 51-41, the Broncos went on another little run as Jayden Perkins and Lane Tipton scored six in a row to make it a six-point game. But Bailey and Clayton Strane hit a three and a layup, respectively, to push its lead to 56-45. A Boatright jumper cut the deficit to nine, but that’s as close as the Broncos would get the rest of the way as Tweedie and Yarbrough helped seal the 62-49 win for Fairview with six in a row to put a stop to another potential run for Holly Pond.
Yarbrough led the way for Fairview (1-0) with 20 points. Brown added 11 points, Tweedie ended up with 10 points and Bailey and Preston Ryan each chipped in with seven. For Holly Pond (0-2), Jayden Perkins finished with 17 points. Sellers added 12 points and Landon Perkins ended up with six.
Fairview will host Vinemont on Friday night, while Holly Pond will travel to take on Cold Springs that same night.
