CULLMAN, Ala. – Vinemont’s Cody Thompson recently achieved a perfect 600 on the new Army Combat Fitness Test (ACFT). He is one of only a handful of soldiers known to have aced the ACFT nationwide.
“PFC Cody Thompson joined the Army National Guard in July 2020. He quickly became recognized for his leadership initiative, athleticism and his go above and beyond mentality,” said Alabama National Guard Staff Sergeant Amber Griffin. “PFC Thompson took the Army’s new physical fitness test called the Army Combat Fitness Test, and scored an unheard-of 600, the maximum score.”
Griffin said the ACFT consists of deadlifts, leg tucks, hand released push-ups, a sprint-drag-carry, weighted ball throw and a 2-mile run.
According to The Army Times, “To achieve a perfect score of 600 on a test where standards are the same regardless of age or gender, a soldier would have to complete three repetitions of a 340-pound deadlift, throw a 10-pound medicine ball backwards over their head for 12.5 meters, complete 60 hand release pushups, run the sprint-drag-carry in less than 93 seconds, complete 20 leg tucks, and run a sub-13:30 two-mile.”
“He maxed all of his events,” Griffin said. “We’d like to recognize PFC Thompson for his hard work and dedication to service his country. Please keep PFC Thompson in your prayers as he continues his career by leaving for basic training early next year.”
