VINEMONT, Ala. – “Nightmare in Vinemont” begins this evening at the Cullman County Agricultural Trade Center. The haunted attraction and hayride, which will go from 7 p.m.-midnight, is a first for the Vinemont-Providence Volunteer Fire Department, but members say they hope to scare everyone who dares to enter. The proceeds for the event will go to the department’s Fire Explorers program, which trains 14-18-year-old students in the fields of EMT and firefighting.
On Friday, The Tribune was given a sneak peek at what guests might experience. The haunted hayride will wind around the wooded area and around the Cullman County Association of Volunteer Departments’ training center. It gets very dark, spooky and fun right away. There’s definitely something off about those woods!
At the Ag Center barn, a menagerie of ghouls and spooks await those brave enough to go inside. With more than 50 volunteer actors, many with years of experience in the business of haunted attractions, the chances of letting out a scream are pretty high.
Tanya Veres, event coordinator and firefighter/EMT with the fire department has been hard at work pulling everything together and says the group is expecting a positive response.
“We have the only Explorers program in Cullman County,” she said, “and all the proceeds will go toward equipment and gear for them.”
The cost to get in is $15 for adults and $10 for children 10 and younger. Parking is $5. Outside the main Ag Center complex will be a big screen with favorite horror films for guests to enjoy. Augusta’s and other food trucks will be onsite, and cotton candy, shaved ice and drinks will also be available.
Nightmare in Vinemont runs Oct. 23-25 and Oct. 30-31, 7 p.m.-midnight at the Cullman County Agricultural Trade Center, 17645 U.S. Highway 31, Cullman, AL 35058. The last tickets will be sold at midnight.
