SUSAN MOORE, Ala. – The Holly Pond Broncos traveled to Susan Moore Friday night to face the Bulldogs and came up short, 35-6.
Susan Moore tried to surprise the Broncos with an onside kick to open the game, but Holly Pond was ready and started with good field position at its own 49. Andrew Bell got the Broncos into Susan Moore territory with a 6-yard run before quarterback Austin Marsh called his own number and rushed for the first down. Three plays later, facing fourth down at the Bulldog 40, Marsh’s pass was dropped, and Susan Moore took over on downs.
Susan Moore’s first play from scrimmage was a Camden Lackey pass to Zach Smith for 33 yards. The Bulldogs drove down to the Bronco 6 and on second down scored their first touchdown of the night.
At the end of the first quarter, The Bulldogs were on top 7-0.
The Broncos, starting on their own 34, opened their passing game with a completion to Lane Tipton at the 45. Behind the hard running of Bell, the Broncos found themselves at the Bulldog 35. The drive came to an end as Zach Smith picks off a Bronco pass at the 25.
The Bulldogs wasted no time driving the ball down to the Bronco 12 where Lackey found Smith open for a touchdown pass, putting the Bulldogs up 14-0.
On Holly Pond’s next possession, backed up to its own 14, Levi Boatright punted the ball away. An excellent kick and a Bronco roll put the Bulldogs at their own 39-yard line.
Susan Moore drove the ball down to the Bronco 16, and on first-and-10, Lackey found Derek Doty for the touchdown. The two-point conversion was good, making it 22-0 at the half.
The Bulldogs received the second-half kickoff in front of the homecoming crowd. They only took two minutes to drive down to the Bronco 8, and on third down Doty caught his second touchdown pass of the contest. The PAT was no good, making it 28-0, Susan Moore.
The Broncos started at their own 37 on their first possession of the second half. Boatright gained 4 yards to the 41, and on second down Marsh found Landon Perkins open for a 20-yard pass to the Bulldog 39. Bell powered the ball down to the 27 for another first down, before running it in and putting Holly Pond on the board, 28-6.
The Bulldogs scored their last touchdown of the night on a 13-yard pass to bring the final score to 35-6.
Holly Pond will host the Vinemont Eagles next week.
