On Oct. 10, 2020, Jacquelyn Estelle Thrasher (nee Vickers), beloved wife, sister, aunt, and teacher, was called home to our Lord.

Jackie, as she was known to all, is survived by Lavell Thrasher, her husband of 52 years, her sister Evelyn Alice Marvin, two brothers Charles and Michael Vickers, and many nieces and nephews.

Born in Birmingham, Alabama Nov. 24, 1946, her family ultimately settled in Huntsville, Alabama in 1957. In 1968 she graduated cum laude with a degree of Fine Arts from Florence State University. Upon settling in Cullman, Alabama, Jackie embarked on an exceptional 38 year career as an educator, 34 of which were with the Cullman City School system where she was once honored as Elementary Teacher of the Year. Her greatest achievement was her impact on hundreds of students. Many of them have spoken of Jackie motivating them to achieve their best, and how years later they would trace their personal achievements back to the inspiration they found in her.

As impressive as her accomplishments were, the most notable thing about Jackie was her faith in Christ. She was unhesitant in giving all credit for her many gifts to God, and it was His light shining through her that enabled her to inspire those around her. She remained active in the church until shortly before her passing. Jackie was a master gardener and enjoyed sharing fruits of her labor with others. She led the ladies ensemble at First Baptist Church, played first chair clarinet in the Cullman Community Band, and was a member of Cullman Women Sing. Jackie was a gifted and spiritual person. She lived life to the fullest and viewed each day as an opportunity to do a good deed, inspiring those around her to also live life to its fullest potential. She was a pearl of great value, a child of God, and will be missed.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, unfortunately there will be no visitation. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Oct. 13, 2020 at First Baptist Church of Cullman, 501 Second Ave. SW Cullman, Alabama. The funeral service will be livestreamed at https://www.cullmanfbc.com/.
