Obituary: Charles A. Williams

Charles Afton Williams, 90, passed away Oct. 2, 2020 in Huntsville, Alabama. Visitation will be Wednesday, Oct. 7 at 10 a.m. at Moss Service Funeral Home in Cullman, Alabama. Visitation will be followed by Funeral Services at 11 a.m., with Cori Lewis of Cullman Church of Christ officiating. Burial and graveside services will be at 2:30 p.m. at the Garden of Love section of Jefferson Memorial in Birmingham, AL.

Charles was born in Eva, Alabama Jan. 10, 1930 to Joseph Hulen and Willie Clyde Boyd Williams. He graduated Hanceville High School in 1948, where he played football and participated in Glee Club. He married Alyne Barnett of Hanceville, Alabama June 19, 1949 and they were married for 71 years. Charles worked for Trailways 14 years (1947 to 1961), followed by a 31-year career selling insurance for National Life and American General Insurance (1961 to 1992).

His life revolved around his devotion to his God, wife and family, He was active in the Church of Christ in Florence, Tarrant, Cullman and Owens Crossroads, Alabama. He served as both a deacon and elder.

Charles is preceded in death by his parents Hulen and Willie Clyde Williams; his brother Eschol Williams; his grandparents A.Z. and Annie Williams; and David and Sarah Boyd.

Charles is survived by his wife Alyne Williams; his sister Shirley Sims (Mancil); his children Carol Green (Gene), Kay Smith (Frank), and Alan Williams (Becky); his grandchildren Misti Phillips, Amanda Golden, Katlin Smith, Elise Smith, Maddison Smith, Alan Williams, and Haley Williams; and four great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Gene Green, Frank Smith, Maddox Golden, Zach Sullivan, David Phillips and Rex Sims.

Memorial donations in lieu of flowers may be made to Childhaven in Cullman, AL.
