BREMEN, Ala. – Cold Springs opened up region play on its home field Friday night and after honoring this year’s seniors before kickoff, the Eagles fended off the Blue Devils 21-19 to improve to 3-0 on the season.
Sulligent took an early 7-0 lead after running one in from 4 yards out and maintained a 7-0 advantage going into the second quarter. The Eagles got on the board in the second when quarterback Brodi Williams connected with Roberto Ayala from 10 yards to out tie the game at 7 and with just over a minute to play in the half, Williams hit Izaiah Estell for a 55-yard touchdown pass to make it a 14-7 game going into the break.
Cold Springs added to its lead in the third quarter. Ayden Alexander scored on the ground from 8 yards out to put the Eagles in front 21-7, but the Blue Devils were able to find the end zone in the third quarter as well to cut into the lead and make it a 21-13 game going into the fourth quarter. Sulligent scored once more early in the fourth quarter to cut the lead all the way down to 2 but was stopped on the two-point conversion attempt and the Eagles were able to hold on and win it 21-19 to start region play 1-0.
Cold Springs improved to 3-0 on the season with the win and will have next week off before traveling to Aliceville Sept. 18.
