GOOD HOPE, Ala. – The City of Good Hope will host its annual Back-to-School Bash this Thursday with the necessary changes required to maintain social distance due to COVID-19. Rather than having the traditional evening in the park, Mayor Jerry Bartlett and the city council decided a drive-through event is the best way to keep families safe.
Beginning at 6 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 6, Good Hope families can drive through the city hall parking lot where they will receive their choice of grilled hamburgers or hot dogs. Each meal will include chips and cookies.
Each Good Hope student will receive a Back-to-School Bash T-shirt and a Good Hope face mask, but they must be present to receive the shirt and mask. The masks will have the Good Hope logo.
As for the shirts, Bartlett said, “We are keeping that a surprise for the kids for the night of the event.”
Food, shirts and masks will be given out while supplies last.
The annual event is hosted each year by the City of Good Hope with help from area sponsors. This year’s sponsors include Cleaning & More, Inc., Good Hope Contracting, Good Hope Pharmacy, Hope Janitorial & Foodservice Supplies, Pepsi, Premier Bank, Scott’s Excavating & Hauling, Senator Garlan Gudger, Jr., James A. Smith Transportation and James R. Smith Trucking.
Volunteers will also be available to help Good Hope residents complete the 2020 Census. Those who have not completed the census are encouraged to do so.
