CULLMAN, Ala. – Wizard-loving Harry Potter fans gathered safely outside the Cullman County Public Library main branch Friday evening for a celebration of Harry Potter’s birthday with an event and pedestrian parade hosted by the Friends of the Public Libraries of Cullman County (FPLCC).

FPLCC Secretary Renée Welsh estimated more than 100 Potter lovers appeared for the event.

Four “Grand Wizards” (Deb Reynolds, Emilie Gutowski, Rehana Sutton and Jordan Davis) led the parade.

Those who came received a bag filled with goodies and were given the opportunity to cool down after the parade with Cha Cha’s Shaved Ice.

Welsh shared, “We, the Friends, were surprised because of the weather, the pandemic, at how many folks came and had a blast! We were stunningly happy and surprised at Harry Potter on his birthday; we wish we could blow out candles. It was a magical evening.”

“We are thrilled the community responded to the library and it just enhances us as a community,” said Friends Director Tanya Allcorn. “We’re so grateful the Friends were able to assist with this. We’re grateful that the library was offering the library facility and that Cha Cha’s could come and be here as a ‘birthday treat’ for all of our kids and adults to enjoy before they go home. We thank everyone for the magical evening!”
