Recently, The Tribune set out to explore all of the many beautiful parks within Cullman County. We’ll visit one each week.

CULLMAN, Ala. – Tucked away in the southeast corner of the city of Cullman Carroll Acres, and inside is Carroll Acres Park. It’s one of the smaller parks The Tribune has explored so far, but it’s big on fun. Located off Briarwood Lane and Timberlane Drive, the recently renovated playground features a giant rope climbing structure and Tribune “Park Puppy” Xena’s personal favorite, the 120-foot zipline.

The park offers lots for families and neighborhood kids to do. There is a covered pavilion and picnic table for a small family outing or birthday party, but this park is not the place for a large gathering. It does offer some much-needed shade while the kids are enjoying the park’s amenities.

The most noticeable feature of Carroll Acres Park is the giant red rope climbing structure. Although the sign indicates that the playground is designed for 5-12-year-olds, the tall climb proved to be an irresistible challenge for the 18-year-old kid there with his dog. Next to the sprawling climbing feature is a set of four swings for those who prefer to stay closer to the ground.

Perhaps the most unique feature of Carroll Acres Park is the zipline. This is the activity that everybody was excited to jump on. A person can stand or sit while zipping down the length of the playground. The smooth glide is stopped by a large spring that sends the rider back the other way. Don’t worry, it rides low enough to the ground that if you were to fall off, only your ego is in danger of being bruised.

While the playground does have a ramp, there isn’t a handicap-accessible swing or equipment designed for those with different abilities.

In the corner of the park is a small baseball field- probably not ideal for a team practice because of the short outfield but still great for a neighborhood pick-up game. The park also has a small grassy area near the pavilion and plenty of shade trees. For the kids in the neighborhood, this park is a perfect place to hang out and have fun.

Carroll Acres Park is open from sunrise to sundown and is pet-friendly. As always, be mindful of the nearby residents and pick up after your pet. Also keep in mind, there are no restrooms at the park.

Carroll Acres Park is beautifully maintained by Cullman Parks, Recreation & Sports Tourism.
