SOUTH VINEMONT, Ala. – Sonya Copeland on Monday announced her candidacy for South Vinemont Town Council, place 5. The Municipal Election will take place Tuesday, Aug. 25, 2020.

Below is Copeland’s announcement:

My name is Sonya Copeland. I am married to Zachary Copeland and we have two children, Jada (9) and Noah (4). We moved to South Vinemont in August 2019 to raise our family.

I have come to realize the community we now call home is being restricted in terms of communal advancement and equal economic growth. This view on Vinemont sparked an interest in rejuvenating the eagerness for change. As a new citizen I wanted to become an active force propelling our community to a common goal.

My first step was assisting Shirley Arnett and Volunteer Fire Chief Jason Doyle, with members of his team lending a hand, installing Vinemont’s Community Pantry Box in hopes of encouraging the betterment and communion of our town.

Since the beginning of the country’s “war on COVID-19” I have joined Shirley Arnett to distribute food to the citizens of South Vinemont.

I would love to continue giving a helping hand or two to the community, so I will be running for South Vinemont City Council, place 5. It is time to refresh the stagnant economic environment and breathe life into the place I am now proud to call my home. I hope the citizens of South Vinemont put their trust in me and allow me to actively work for them, our children, and our hometown.
