Obituary: Stephen Carl Moody

Stephen Carl Moody, 65, born July 5, 1954 to Daniel and Juliet Lines Moody in Norwich, England, went to his heavenly home July 3, 2020.

He was an USAF brat living all across the U.S. In his earlier years, he was employed as a landing gear mechanic at Aero Inc. at Lake City, FL. He was formerly employed as a sewing machine mechanic for Cullman Lingerie, Oneita Industries and J & J Oakley, Marsey Manufacturing. He was also a certified locksmith and an HVAC licensed technician. He currently retired from Jet Pep Inc. as pump mechanic. He was a volunteer fire department member for over 20 years and a rapid responder for 11 years. He taught Sunday school at Bethsadia Baptist Church, Mountain View Baptist Church, and Spring Hill Baptist Church. He was an active member of the Gideons with the Cullman West Camp. He was a fisherman of men. Steve loved to sing, even in church with Penny. His favorite phrases were “It’s all about Jesus” and “It’s not how you leave this world, but where you are going when you leave.”

He was preceded in death by his parents.

He is survived by his wife of 38 years Cheryl (Penny) Wilbanks Moody; sons Nicholas (Melissa) Moody, Benjamin (Michelle) Moody, and honorary son Sergio (Joy) Bradford; grandchildren Hailey Moody, Ian Moody, Kaitlynn Moody, and Logan Moody, and honorary grandchild Adelina Bradford; brothers Terry (Mary) Moody, Danny (Janet) Moody, and Chris Moody; sisters Tammy (Ronald) Parker and Susan (Johnny) Smith; brothers in-law Andy (Marcy) Wilbanks and John (Janease) Wilbanks; sister-in-law Rebecca Wilbanks McAnalley; and hosts of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, former and present church members, Gideons and auxiliaries.

The officiating pastor will be Tim Aris, obituary presented by Kenneth Dees and special singing by Byron Wood. In lieu of flowers, Steve’s personal request was donations for Bibles to be distributed by the Gideons (cards and donation box will be provided at the funeral home).

He will lie in state at Cullman Funeral Home chapel Monday, July 6 from noon-2 p.m. followed by service. Burial will follow at Bethsadia Baptist Church Cemetery 1365 County Road 421, Cullman, AL 35057.

It is recommended by the funeral home and family that you wear a face mask.
