Charles Anderton, 79, of Commerce Township, Michigan passed away June 17, 2020 from respiratory complications.

Mr. Anderton was born in October 1940 in Garden City, where he attended school through the ninth grade. He was a multi-sport athlete and a Beta Club member at Hanceville High School, where he graduated in 1958. After high school, he enrolled and graduated from Saint Bernard College.

A good job at General Motors enticed him to Michigan. He said, “It was 60 degrees when I left Alabama and minus 20 degrees when I arrived in Michigan.” Charles thought, “What have I done?”

Some people referred to him as “Bama” and others “Chigger.” He was an avid rabbit hunter and fisherman. His passion was Alabama football.

Mr. Anderton was predeceased by his parents, two brothers, one sister and an 11-year-old grandson, who drowned several years ago.

He is survived by his wife Nina, five sons and several grandchildren.

He was a member of Scott Lake Baptist Church, of Waterford, Michigan, where services were held June 23 by his son, Matt Anderton.

Footnote: Charles Anderton was a great encourager. He sent out 350 Christmas cards each year. Every card had an inspirational note.
