CULLMAN, Ala. – The Cullman County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO) will host a two-part Citizens’ Firearms Safety Class in July. The classroom portion of the event will take place Tuesday, July 7 at 6 p.m. at Temple Baptist Church, with the live-fire portion the following Saturday, July 11 at 8 a.m. at the CCSO range.

The class will focus on safe weapon handling, proper shooting technique, cleaning a weapon and getting familiar with a weapon. A PowerPoint presentation will be shown as well.

Citizens who attend the classroom portion of the event will be given the opportunity that night to sign up for the live-fire portion.

“We have had many people call and come by the office the last couple weeks and ask about having a class. We at the Cullman County Sheriff’s Office are advocates of our citizens having the knowledge and training they need to protect themselves,” said Sheriff Matt Gentry. ” I would add that we want them to also know how to handle the weapon safely, and with this free training they are able to gain valuable knowledge in both these areas.”

To register, email Deputy Bradley Williams at bwilliams@cullmansheriff.org or call 256-734-0342.

Registration is not required, but it is encouraged so the CCSO has an idea how big the classes will be.

Note: Do NOT bring a gun or ammo Tuesday, July 7. This is a classroom portion-only class.
