WEST POINT, Ala. – The West Point Town Council on Monday night discussed the paving of County Road 1141.

The Cullman County Commission recently informed the council that bids for the repaving of the County’s portion of the road will be sent out in August. Mayor Gerald Schafer said he hopes the project can begin by September.

“I talked to (Cullman County Commissioner) Garry Marchman and they are going to bid 1141’s paving in August,” said Schafer, who said it’s his understanding that the Town could then “piggyback off that bid.”

Schafer added, “If we decide to pave in the town- that looks like that might come in September; we can get a price before then.”

Before making any decisions on the paving of the Town’s portion of County Road 1141, the council agreed to wait until the bid is awarded by the County for its portion.

The Town will begin next week replacing culverts on 1141 that have begun collapsing.

The West Point Town Council meets the third Monday of each month at 6 p.m. at West Point Town Hall.
