Janice Ilene Hunter Cagle, 78, of Haleyville, Alabama went home to be with her Lord Friday, June 12, 2020. She was surrounded by her loving family as she left this old world for her much better home and new body, a body that is not filled with severe pain and that awful disease of cancer. For now, she is forever free of that and all the sorrow this world has to offer.
She was a member of Liberty Chapel Freewill Baptist church in the East Franklin Community.
She was a precious Christian mother; she raised her children up in church and taught them about the Lord from a very young age. She was a loving grandmother to all of her grandkids and great grandkids, and she loved her family. When you came to her house you could see that because of all the pictures hanging on her walls.
She was a retired school bus driver at Double Springs; she drove the bus for 27 years for the Winston County school system. A lot of the students that rode her bus will tell you to this day how they enjoyed riding her bus. She loved them, too, and sometimes would give them little treats of gum or candy.
She loved going to the Smoky Mountains with her three cousins- Brenda, Diane, and Deb. You put them together- fun they did have! They made a lot of precious memories together.
Gardening and cooking, she loved doing so very much, she was popular in the family not only for her love but good homemade vegetable soup and fried apple pies. Up until her health got bad, she was active in the senior citizens exercise classes and the swimming classes in Haleyville. Some of the ladies would make the comment on how she could out do them and she was older than a lot of them!
Janice is survived by her daughter Ilene (Steve) Garrison; sons Teddy (Tammy) Cagle and Tony (Barbara) Cagle; half-brothers Ernie and James Hunter; half-sister, Liz Hunter; grandchildren Kayleen (Kevin) Gillespie, Jeremy (Sara) Cagle, Jessica (Matt) Montgomery, Tyler (Kristal) Cagle and Amanda (Kyle) Copeland; and great-grandchildren Brody and Kade Gillespie, Emma, Elaina, Ella and Olivia Cagle, Noah Montgomery, Braxten and Benjamin Cagle and Ottis Ray Hudson.
She was proceeded in death by her husband of 54 years, Benny Murphy Cagle; mother Lucille Cagle; father Alfred Hunter; step-father, George Cagle; and brother Jerry Dale Hunter.
The family would like to say thank you to Dr. Walter Chatham at UAB for all his help for their mother. A very special thanks to the hospice team that took such very special care of her and them at this time. To her hospice nurses, Jamie Stults and Robin Fugate, enough words and actions cannot be expressed on how thankful the family was for God to have sent y’all to take care of their mother. Y’all are truly special people in God’s eyes.
Visitation was Saturday, June 13, 2020 from 5-8 p.m. at Nichols Funeral Home in Haleyville, where the service will be held Sunday at 3 p.m. Burial will be in the Shady Grove Cemetery in Double Springs. Speakers will be her grandson Kyle Copeland and Brother Delmer Duboise. Pallbearers are grandsons Jeremy Cagle, Kevin Gillespie, Tyler Cagle, Matt Montgomery, Brody and Kade Gillespie.
