Man, woman charged with assaulting man along Hwy. 91

CULLMAN, Ala. – A man and woman have been charged after allegedly assaulting a man along Alabama Highway 91 south of Holly Pond.

The Cullman County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO) said deputies responded to a call late Sunday afternoon of a male victim in a ditch just off the highway.

Witnesses reported the man lying in the middle of the roadway prior to authorities arriving. A witness said several motorists stopped to assist the victim.

According to the CCSO, deputies and investigators arrived and determined that the victim had been assaulted by two individuals, later identified as Melissa Dawn Hughes, 37, of Somerville and Nicholas Daniel McAlpine, 38, of Holly Pond. 

The suspects were located by CCSO deputies and investigators and placed under arrested. After consulting with the Cullman County District Attorney’s Office, the suspects were arrested and charged with third-degree domestic violence.

Both suspects are being held in the Cullman County Detention Center, each on a $1,500 bond.
