CULLMAN, Ala. – One person is dead and two injured in a wreck at the intersection of U.S. Highway 278 and Alabama Highway 157 in Cullman County. The incident happened at approximately 6:30 p.m. Sunday evening.

Randy Pope, 28, of Cullman was pronounced dead at the scene by the Cullman County Coroner’s Office.

Cullman County Coroner Jeremy L. Kilpatrick confirmed the fatality.

“A two-vehicle crash occurred inside the intersection of U.S. Highway 278 East and Alabama Highway 157,” said Cullman Police Sgt. Joey Duncan, who is a traffic homicide investigator with the department. “The two vehicles involved were a Toyota RAV-4 and a Nissan Frontier pick-up truck.”

Pope was driving the Nissan.

The Toyota was driven by Angelica Ruffin, 37, of Huntsville, who was injured and transported to Huntsville Hospital by helicopter.

A passenger in the Toyota, who has not been identified, was taken by ambulance to Cullman Regional.

“The cause of the wreck is under investigation,” said Duncan.

On the scene were personnel from the Cullman Police Department, Cullman Fire Rescue, Cullman EMS, the Berlin Volunteer Fire Department and the Cullman County Sheriff’s Office.
