Shirley Arnett announces candidacy for mayor of Vinemont

VINEMONT, Ala. – Vinemont Councilwoman Shirley Arnett on Tuesday night announced her candidacy for mayor of the town. The Municipal Election will be Tuesday, Aug. 25, 2020.

Below is Arnett’s statement, in full:

Shirley is a 29-year resident of the town of South Vinemont and town councilwoman, place 5, for the last eight years, serving under three mayors.  Shirley serves on the Board of Directors for WellStone (Cullman Area Mental Health), as a representative of Vinemont.  She is also on The WellStone Foundation Board and works to raise money for mental health awareness.  She serves on the Perkins Place Board.  She has been a volunteer for The Link mentoring program at Vinemont Elementary School for several years.  She supports and attends Vinemont Fire Department monthly meetings. 

Shirley is dedicated to her town and has been involved in many community projects. She would be honored to serve as mayor.  She plans to donate a portion of her salary to Vinemont School, and is committed to providing conservative fiscal leadership for the community.

Shirley and her husband of 45 years, Steve, have one daughter, Dr. Stephanie Arnett, a professor at New Mexico State University in Las Cruces.  

The South Vinemont Municipal Election will be held at Vinemont Community Center  Aug. 25, 2020.
