CULLMAN, Ala. – The staff at Donald E. Green Active Adult Center wanted seniors to know just how much they are missed and Tuesday afternoon held the Red, White & Blue Drive Thru for You parade. Staff planned the afternoon event to allow seniors a chance to stop by and say hello and grab a treat from Frios Gourmet Pops. Those who came out were eager for the senior centers to re-open.

Donald E. Green Active Adult Center Director Stephanie Neal greeted each car and struggled to not hug each senior as the vehicles pulled through the center’s parking lot.

“We miss them and they are ready to get back here,” she said. “They miss socializing and being with their friends. We wanted to do something to let them know that we miss them, too.”

She added, “The 22nd is supposed to end the lockdown orders and we hope she (Governor Kay Ivey) makes a statement before then. That’s what we are waiting on, and boy, the seniors don’t like it either, but we have to. Re-opening is up to Governor Ivey; it’s not up to me.”

Neal believes some seniors will remain cautious about coming back at first, while others will be excited to resume some normalcy.

Based on the reactions Tuesday to Neal’s sign reading, “Honk if you miss coming to the center,” all the seniors who came out are more than ready to be back.
