Obituary: Mary Charlene Koehler

Mary Charlene Koehler, of Vinemont, passed away Friday, May 8, 2020 at the age of 77. She was born July 11, 1942 to Gustav and Elizabeth Stewart Koehler.

She attended Kelly school and Cullman High School where she graduated from at the age of 16. Charlene spent many years as a homemaker before continuing her education at Cullman College where she earned her bachelor’s degree. She taught second grade at Vinemont Elementary School for several years then later worked and retired from the State of Alabama as a social worker in the Food Stamp Division. Charlene attended Vinemont First Baptist Church. She loved animals and supported different wildlife foundations. She was a huge Alabama Football fan and loved reading.

She is preceded in death by her parents; sisters Betty Gandy and Laura Mae White; and brother Ralph Koehler.

Survivors include her daughter Jill (Kerry) Thompson; sons Stanley (Beth) Parker and Gary (Rhonda) Parker; sisters Clarice (Charles) Shafer and Dorothy (Tommy) Kelly; six grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.

A private family funeral service will be Wednesday, May 13, 2020 at 2 p.m. at Moss Service Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Cullman Memory Gardens.
