HANCEVILLE, ALA. – Wallace State tennis sophomore Sebastian Arce has been named an Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) NJCAA 1st-team All-American for men’s singles.

Arce, a native of Columbia, was Wallace State’s No. 1 singles’ player during his freshman and sophomore seasons. He was off to a blistering start in 2020, being named the ITA JUCO Player of the Week on March 16, before the season was shortened because of the COVID-19 pandemic.

“Sebastian is a champion and among the best players I’ve coached. He has a willingness to work harder than everybody else, and he has more heart than most players,” said Wallace State tennis coach Tim Garner. “As a coach, you ask your players to put forth the effort to improve. Sebastian’s desire to improve and be the best is what puts him head and shoulders above many of his counterparts. He’s a pleasure to coach.”

As a freshman, Arce was the 2019 Alabama Community College Conference Men’s Tennis Player of the Year, helping Wallace State win its second league title in three seasons and finishing 10th at nationals.

Arce is the third Wallace State athlete to earn All-American recognition in the past month. In addition to Arce, women’s basketball’s Imari Martin was named a NJCAA 1st-team All-American and men’s golf’s Carter Goodwin was a selected as a NJCAA Honorable Mention All-American.

Wallace State men’s tennis is a two-time NJCAA national champion.
