HANCEVILLE, Ala. – The Hanceville City Council held its regularly scheduled meeting Thursday afternoon, where Mayor Kenneth Nail gave an update on the mayors’ meeting that took place at Cullman City Hall Tuesday.

“We don’t think we will be able to salvage the parks and rec ball this year,” said Nail. “We pretty much all agreed at some point we might be able to salvage the travel ball tournaments and that sort of thing.”

The mayors agreed to get together again in the near future to make a collective decision.

“I think that’s the fair thing to do,” he continued. “We wouldn’t need Hanceville down here wide-open having tournaments and Good Hope not and Cullman not or visa-versa.”

One problem he did point out was with refunding money. The City of Hanceville already ordered uniforms with players’ names on them, making them unusable for next season.

The council voted to refund the registration fees for T-ball ($45) and baseball and softball ($55). Checks will be sent through the mail. A safe system for jersey and cap pick-up is still being worked out.

Hanceville Fire and Rescue was awarded a grant from Firehouse Subs for $33,180 last week. The money will be used to replace hydraulic tools (jaws of life).

Work is nearing completion for the city’s new dog park that was made possible by a $5,000 grant. The dog park was moved from the lower portion of Veterans Park to the upper portion near the pavilion.

Nail asked everyone who still has a Hanceville City garbage can to please set those at the curb for pick-up. Beginning May 4, the County will not pick up garbage unless it is inside the new County provided cans.

Nail explained, “They will not pick up garbage set on the side of the road in a garbage can. If it’s not in their can where their automatic operator driver can pull up, grab it with that arm, and the can goes back, they aren’t going to get it.”

The next Hanceville City Council meeting will be held May 14 at 4 p.m.
