ARLEY, Ala. – There are a lot of heavy hearts in Arley this week. After Meek High School sophomore Trint Ory was tragically killed in a car wreck Saturday night, his family, friends, classmates, teachers, coaches and others have been doing what they can to cope and support one another. Ory played both baseball and football for the Tigers. Meek High School is taking phone calls from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. every day this week to help anyone who feels the need to reach out for support.
Meek High School posted to its Facebook page Sunday night:
“Our thoughts and prayers are with Trint’s family and the young men involved in the wreck last night and their families. Please keep our school and community close to your heart in the days to come. We will be taking calls at the school this week from 10:00 am until 2:00 pm. Any students or families who need to reach out, please message us anytime or call us at 205-384-5825 between the hours posted above. We will connect you with support. There are counselors, teachers, and coaches who are ready to listen. #TIGERSTRONG12”
Principal Marla Murrah said social media has made it easier for her students to stay connected during this time, but she, along with counselors, teachers and coaches at the school are doing everything they can to help students who need support as well.
“We are here taking phone calls and we’ve had some students reach out to us on social media. The students are pretty well connected with each other, so that’s one of the benefits of their social media. They do have those connections and they seem to be using them for good right now. They’re helping each other as much as they can,” Murrah said. “We’ve had reports that they’re supporting each other at home, visiting each other in that way. They’re going to make it through the best way they can and that’s through the support they have from each other, but we are also ready to provide additional support as needed.”
Murrah and her staff have been in contact with their students since the tragedy, but she admits social distancing has made mourning even tougher than normal. She knows the kids and the community will pull through and come together regardless to support Trint’s family during this time.
“Some of them enjoy talking with a favorite teacher or a favorite coach so they’ve also reached out to the students. Our head football coach (Houston Powell) said that he has spoken with nearly all of his team personally just to let them know he’s there for them,” Murrah said. “Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and his friends and its hard right now because of the distancing. People are used to coming together to gain some closure, and I feel like it’s going to happen, it’s just harder than it normally would be, and it’s already hard anyway.”

Trinton Blake Ory, 16, of Arley entered into rest Saturday, April 18, 2020 in Arley.
Trint was born Dec. 1, 2003 in Montgomery, Alabama. He was a sophomore at Meek High School, where he was involved in sports, especially baseball.
As per State and Federal guidelines, a private service will be held. Burial will be in Meek Cemetery in Arley.
Trint is survived by his father, David Patrick Ory; mother, Catrina Thrasher and her husband Matthew Motes; grandparents, Patricia and Doug Speegle, and Carol Tubbs; brother, Steven Auble; sister, Ryan Ory Saldana and her husband D.J.; aunts and uncles, Vicki and Eddie Worsham, Ralph and Brandy Thrasher, Shadow Nichole and Steven Sanford; and a host of cousins and friends.
He was preceded in death by his grandfather, Ralph Thrasher.
