VINEMONT, Ala. – Danville made the trip to Vinemont High School for a matchup with the Eagles Thursday night and the Hawks were sent home with a 7-2 loss. Wyatt Thomason got the start on the mound for Vinemont and earned the win after tossing six innings, allowing just two runs on five hits and striking out eight Danville batters.

Clay Rogers singled and Travis Hopper drew a walk to give the Eagles a pair of base runners in the bottom of the first and after stealing third, Rogers scored on a fielder’s choice to give Vinemont a 1-0 lead. A hit batter put runners on the corners for the Eagles, but two quick outs ended the inning for Danville.

After two quick outs started the bottom of the second inning for Vinemont, Will Rhodes singled to reach first base. Rhodes stole second and Rogers singled into right field to bring home and stretch the lead to 2-0. Hopper drew another walk to once again give the Eagles runners on the corners, but this time Deacon Samples drove one into right field to score Rogers and make it a 3-0 game going into the third.

A quick and scoreless third inning took us into the fourth where the Hawks managed to get on the board and trim the lead to 3-1 going into the bottom half of the inning. Vinemont got the run back after Rogers singled to reach base for the third time on the night and Hopper knocked a triple into center field to bring him home and build the lead back up to 4-1. Thomason and the Eagles kept Danville off the board in the top of the fifth and Lucas Miller was able to steal home in the bottom of the inning to extend the lead to 5-1 going into the sixth.

The Hawks were able to string some hits together and put another run on the board to cut it to 5-2 in the top of the sixth, but Vinemont put things away in its half of the inning. Back to back base hits from Colby Miller and Rhodes gave the Eagles a pair of runners on the base paths and a single off the bat of Hopper scored them both to make it a 7-2 game going into the final frame.

Rogers took the rubber in the top of the seventh with two runners on and a chance to end the game and a strikeout and a double play sealed the win for Vinemont.

Rogers (one RBI) led the Eagles with three hits and Hopper (two hits) led them with three RBIs. Rhodes added a pair of hits and Samples (one hit) drove in two runs of his own. Vinemont improves to 5-4 on the year with the win and will try to stay hot on the road against Holly Pond Friday.
