SOUTH VINEMONT, Ala.- It was a light agenda Tuesday evening for the South Vinemont Town Council. The only item of business pertained to the surplus of the ice machine and shaved ice machine used at the town’s ball fields.
Shaved ice fans need not worry. The older machine is being replaced with a new machine that is easier to operate.
Mayor Radginal Dodson explained, “It was more aggravation trying to freeze the blocks of ice necessary to feed the shaved ice machine than it was if we could have manufactured our own bagged ice and put it in a different type of machine to still make available Icees for the kids.”
The new machine will allow the park to use the ice it already has. The surplus equipment will be sold on GovDeals. The Town will still have the trailer that houses the shaved ice.
The first ball tournament is scheduled for the weekend of March 21. South Vinemont Parks and Recreation has tournaments scheduled every weekend until at least July 4. The parks and recreation games will begin the second week of April.
The town hall has a new look as larger lettering has been added to the front of the building to hopefully make differentiating town hall from the post office easier. Dodson thanked Public Works Supervisor Mike Graves for a job well done.
The council invites all residents in and around the entire Vinemont area to come out April 11 from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. to enjoy the town’s census event. The event will be at the South Vinemont Community Center. Volunteers will be available to assist in making sure everyone is counted. Free food, activities for the kids, T-shirts and prizes will be available to those who come out.
On March 27 at 11 a.m., Haven Counseling Services will celebrate opening in South Vinemont with a ribbon cutting. Located at 18291 U.S. Highway 31. The new counseling service is owned by Mandy Wilhite, a licensed independent clinical social worker.
