CULLMAN, Ala. – The 37th Annual Stars and Stripes Rodeo benefiting the West Point Warrior Band is returning to the Cullman County Agricultural Trade Center this Friday and Saturday, March 6-7. The gates open each night at 5:30 p.m. with the shows starting at 7 p.m. The Cullman County Agricultural Trade Center is located at 17645 U.S. Highway 31 Cullman, AL 35058.
Advanced tickets can be purchased at Premier Bank locations and Jack’s Western Wear for $10 for adults and $8 for kids ages 6-12. Children 5 and younger are free. Tickets at the door will be $12 for adults and $10 for ages 6-12. Advanced tickets will be available to purchase until 5 p.m., Friday, March 6, 2020. Parking for the event is free and an ATM will be on-site. Event organizers will also be accepting cash and credit cards.
With the rodeo happening on two nights, Double Creek Rodeo Company will be presenting an entertaining show for those in attendance. There will be mutton busting and other kids’ activities, a ladies’ envelope scramble and Saturday night will see the crowning of the 2020 Miss West Point Rodeo Queen.
Matt Coleman of Double Creek Rodeo Company, the company behind the “rodeo” portion of the event shared what the rodeo will feature:
- bareback riding (bucking horses)
- saddle bronc riding (also bucking horses)
- tie-down calf roping
- breakaway roping
- steer wrestling
- team roping
- Intermission with a calf scramble for the kids
- barrel racing
- bull riding
“Before the rodeo starts,” said Coleman, “we will do what’s called ‘mutton busting’ where kids ride sheep and that’ll be at 6:30 p.m. with the show starting at 7 p.m.”
During the mutton busting Friday night, there will be a rodeo clown contest for the kids ages 0-6 and 7-13. The winner’s prize from each age group will be $100 cash.
West Point Band Booster President Josh Sellers said all funds raised at the rodeo will benefit the Warrior Band.
“We want to cut down on band fees for students to plan for new uniforms and for their transportation costs,” he said.
