WEST POINT, Ala. – The West Point High School scholars’ bowl team won in district competition this month at Hanceville without a single loss, continuing a perfect eight-year run. That’s right: West Point now has not lost a single match at district in eight years.

West Point took top honors in Division 1 (5A-7A and selective enrollment). Good Hope High School won Division 2 (1A-3A), also sweeping its category 5-0, while Hanceville took second.

West Point coach Lee Henry told The Tribune, “This team has worked hard for a long time. I’m hoping that they can bring the 5A State Championship, if not the overall title, back home to West Point High. It would be great for the seniors to go out as state champs.”

West Point and Good Hope advance to the state tournament, which will be held April 17 at the Jefferson State Community College Shelby-Hoover campus in Hoover.

West Point qualified for the 2020 Small School National Championship Tournament (Traditional Public Schools Division) and the 2020 High School National Championship Tournament.

Good Hope and Hanceville qualified for the 2020 Small School National Championship Tournament (Traditional Public Schools Division). Good Hope also qualified for the 2020 High School National Championship Tournament.
