BAILEYTON, Ala. – A new Valentine King and Queen were crowned Thursday morning at the Baileyton Senior Center. Newlyweds Jerry and Janese Mead were all smiles as they received their crowns at this year’s Valentine’s party.

Jerry Mead said of winning the honor, “It’s an honor to have your peers pick you!”

The Meads have been married for 14 months and reside in Arab. They attend the Baileyton Senior Center regularly.

“It only took us 84 years to get here,” smiled Janese Mead.

Gene Sumner, 91, was presented with a box of Whitman’s chocolates for being the oldest senior at Thursday’s party.

After a potluck lunch, the group enjoyed live music and games.
