Obituary: Burl B. Chandler

Burl B. Chandler, 87, of Huntsville peacefully passed away Thursday, Feb. 6 at home surrounded by his loving family.

Born in Cullman, AL, Burl and his wife, Betty, were married for over 67 years. After moving to Huntsville in the early 60s, Burl and his twin brother, Hurl, began their careers as carpenters, eventually partnering as Chandler Brothers for land development and custom homebuilding. They were both inducted into the Huntsville/Madison County Builders Hall of Fame in 1992.

Survivors include his wife Betty Jean Chandler; sons Keith Chandler (Sue), Kenneth Chandler (Lee), and Chris Chandler (Debra); grandchildren Jason Chandler (Alexis), Allison Chandler, Laura Ann Mayer (Bryan), and Sara House (Michael); nine great-grandchildren; sister Jean Stisher; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents Otis Kyle and Mae Etta Chandler; his brother and sister-in-law Hurl and Peggy Chandler; sister Obera Jester; and brother-in-law Galen Stisher.

Visitation will be from 1-3 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 8, 2020 at Laughlin Service Funeral Home preceding the memorial service at 3 p.m., with Stephen Hampton officiating. Burial will be in Maple Hill Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice Family Care or the Huntsville/Madison County Builders Foundation/Burl and Betty Chandler Scholarships.
