GRANDVIEW, Ala. – Two Grandview men have been arrested in connection with thefts of Cullman Electric Cooperative property and a stolen car.
Cullman County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO) investigators on Friday arrested James Raymond Brown, 37 and Clyde Michael Brown, also 37. Each is charged with three counts of first-degree theft of property.
A media release from the CCSO said the Cullman Electric Cooperative recently had a large generator and approximately 152 pounds of copper stolen from its Ryan’s Creek substation. It said investigators received a tip that James Brown and Clyde Brown were in possession of the stolen items, and when CCSO investigators went to their residence in the Grandview area they saw the generator in plain sight. They also located a stolen vehicle.
“Once CCSO investigators located the vehicle they continued their investigation, which led them to a local recycling business. CCSO investigators were able to identify the suspects and confirm they had taken the 152 pounds of copper to the recycling business shortly after the Ryan’s Creek substation had (its) copper stolen. CCSO investigators were also able to confirm the stolen car in the suspects’ possession came from I-65 after it had broken down and was left on the side of I-65,” said the release.
“Anytime we are able to arrest thieves and recover property, we feel that’s a win for the community,” said Sheriff Matt Gentry. “I would also like to thank the investigators who constantly work hard to make our community safer by arresting these suspects.”
Other charges may be pending as the investigation continues.
Clyde Brown is being held in the Cullman County Detention Center without bond. James Brown has made bond.
