CULLMAN, Ala. – Perpetual scholars’ bowl powerhouse West Point Middle School took top honors last weekend in the Alabama Scholastic Competition Association Middle School District Tournament in Horton. Second place finisher Cullman Middle School will join West Point Feb. 22 for the state tournament in Hoover.
West Point’s Brodie Henry was the district tournament’s top scorer.
Lee Henry, West Point coach and Brodie Henry’s proud dad, told The Tribune, “We have had a great year so far. Our overall record is 39-1 as we get ready for State. Brodie has led the team in scoring this year, but it is a team effort. Each kid has a role to play and we wouldn’t have the level of success we have without each team member filling in the gaps on knowledge and performing their roles. A lot of teams have one really strong player. And, most of the time a good team will be able to best one strong player. What we have is a strong team made up of several strong players. They work hard and complement each other very well. I’m hoping that we can continue to work hard and make a good run at state on February 22.”
In a separate pool at the same district tournament, Arab Middle School took first and East Lawrence Middle School took second and will also compete in Hoover.
