Obituary: Hassie “Pat” Taylor

Hassie “Pat” Taylor, 88, of Double Springs entered into rest Thursday, Jan. 23, 2020 at Lakeland Community Hospital.

Ms. Taylor was born July 26, 1931 in Berlin, Georgia. She attended Northwest College and went on to receive her bachelor’s degree in education from Athens State. She was a member of Double Springs First Baptist Church for more than 40 years, where she taught Sunday school and Mission Friends. Ms. Taylor wore many hats during her working career, including daycare worker and cashier at Piggly Wiggly, before becoming a Kindergarten teacher. She taught for 10 years and loved her Kindergarten kids. She was a member of the Double Springs Study Club and Red Hat Ladies. Her hobbies included gardening, traveling, and volunteering at the nursing home, school and anywhere else she could.

The family will receive friends Sunday, Feb. 2, 2020 from 1-2 p.m. at First Baptist Church Double Springs, where a memorial service will follow at 2 p.m. Brother Phillip Twilley, Brother Buford Smith and Brother George Whitten will officiate.

She is survived by her sons James W. Taylor, Jr. and his wife Maryann, and Frank Ed Taylor; daughters Carol Garrison and Cory Williamson. She was “Granny Pat” to seven grandchildren: Carrie Williams and her husband Darrell, Chris Hyche, Madison Taylor, Mariah Williamson, Jacob Taylor and Jessica Taylor; eight great-grandchildren: Josh, Ashton, Kyla, Brae, Payte, Weston, Easton and Payton; and four great-great-grandchildren: Tristen, Piper, Abigail and Everlee.

She was preceded in death by her husband James W. Taylor, Sr.; father Frank Adams; mother Estell Croft; and sister Grace Carter.

In lieu of flowers, family requests donations be made to the Children’s Ministry at First Baptist Church Double Springs, Post Office Box 326, Double Springs, Alabama 35553.
