CULLMAN, Ala. – The Cullman Rotary Club is honored to announce Mrs. Sarah Hicks as the recipient of the William O. Buettner Service Above Self Award. This award is named in honor of longtime Rotarian Bill Buettner who was an outstanding member with perfect attendance for 50 years. This award was created to recognize non-Rotarians in the community who live out the Rotary Club motto “Service Above Self.”

Mrs. Hicks has faithfully served as the president of the Cullman Regional Auxiliary for the past 35 years. Under her leadership the Auxiliary led fundraising efforts in securing a family conference area in the emergency room and also contributed to a new patient room during the hospital’s Refresh-A-Room campaign. Additionally, its efforts assisted in the purchase of new baby beds, an x-ray machine, hospital beds, emergency room items and medical equipment for ambulances. She is a friendly face at the hospital delivering papers, running errands and brightening the spirits of patients.

In addition to her work with the Auxiliary, Mrs. Hicks has served on the Cullman Regional Foundation Board for the past 25 years. Working behind the scenes for events such as the Dr. Herman C. Ensor Lights of Love event and the Bownes Memorial For Kids’ Sake program, she always strives to improve the overall quality of life for area residents.

She was named the 2003 HC Arnold Humanitarian Award winner and spent more than 15 years as a volunteer for Hospice of Cullman County.

Sarah is married to G.W. Hicks and they have two grown children.
