CULLMAN, Ala. – A very happy 100th birthday to the lovely Idell Williams, who hit the milestone Thursday, Jan. 16, 2020.
Williams enjoyed a surprise party with family, friends and the staff of Woodland Village Rehabilitation & Healthcare Center, where she was greeted with a large sign that read “Happy 100th Birthday Mama.”
The sharp and quick-witted Williams called Logan home for much of her life. She has 11 children, 28 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren, 19 great-great-grandchildren and 3 great-great-great-grandchildren!
When she opened her eyes to her surprise party Thursday, she told her children, “Y’all didn’t have to do that, but the table is really pretty.”
She was overwhelmed with joy and emotion as everyone sang “Happy Birthday.”
Granddaughter Pam Cooper said of her grandmother, “She was always a hard worker. She made the best pecan pies and fried apple pies!”
Williams grew up working in the fields and later in life worked at the King Edward Cigar Plant in Cullman.
“She loves to tell stories and has a great sense of humor,” smiled great-great-granddaughter Melissa Bowers. “She’s feisty!”
Caroline Sheppard, who is married to Williams’ grandson Luke Sheppard, shared, “She taught my husband how to drive when he was 9 years old!”
That grandson is now a police officer in Addison.
Williams was a longtime member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church and most recently attended Brickyard Baptist Church.
