Obituary: George Elam

George Emory Elam, 86, of Addison entered into rest Saturday, Jan. 11, 2020 at The Folsom Center in Cullman surrounded by family.

Mr. Elam was born June 11, 1933 in Bankhead National Forest, Alabama.

George graduated from Addison High School in 1952. He owned and operated his own excavation business for 55 years. George was a hardworking, good man who was loved and respected by all who knew him. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather, and he will be greatly missed.

Visitation will be Tuesday, Jan. 14, 2020 from 5:30-7:30 p.m. at Nichols Funeral Home Chapel in Addison, where services will be Wednesday at noon. He will lie in state from 11 a.m.-noon. Mr. Elam will be laid to rest at Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church Cemetery.

He was preceded in death by his first wife Betty Ashworth Elam; daughter Judy Annette Peak; son-in-law Dennis Carroll Rowe; and parents Dock and Annie Elam.

George is survived by his daughters Sheila Smith and Darlene (Chris) Hays; second wife Sue Elam; grandchildren Dennis (Jenny) Rowe Jr., Kenneth (Tara) McNeal, Whitney (Caleb) Smith, Aundrea (Brian) Richardson, Lisa (Jason) Perdelwitz, and Brad (Amanda) Peak; great-grandchildren Reilly, Emory, Jaxon, Raylee, Micah, Isaiah, Madeline, Tyler, Abby, Tori, Grace, and Kaden; and stepchildren Susan Willoughby and Todd Suggs.
