CULLMAN, Ala. – The City of Cullman sold the Cullman Civic Center to Desperation Church last fall for its appraised value of $3,125,500. The sale will help fund the construction of the City’s new sports and events complex, where most of the events that usually take place at the civic center will be hosted in the future.

But what about this “in-between” time?

The Tribune spoke with Cullman Parks, Recreation and Sports Tourism (CPRST) Acting Executive Director Christy Turner to find out.

“There is not an official close date (for the civic center),” she said. “The last official event there will be Missoula (Children’s Theatre).”

The Missoula Children’s Theatre auditions, rehearsals and performances will take place Jan. 20-25. Read more about that at www.cullmantribune.com/2020/01/07/missoula-childrens-theatre-returning-with-sleeping-beauty-auditions-jan-20.

As for where all of the events usually held at the civic center will take place now, Turner said, “Our civic center director was great to provide a list of community facilities and assist some of our events (coordinators) in finding a new location in our community. Once the new events center is built, we look forward to exciting new opportunities for both old and new events.”

As for the CPRST’s central office staff, Turner said, “Our temporary home, for the time being, will be (Cullman) City Hall. Our permanent home will be the new events center and sports complex.”

The CPRST’s phone numbers remain the same. For more information, visit https://cullmanrecreation.org.
