GOOD HOPE, Ala. – After dropping a pair of home matchups Monday night, Hanceville hit the road Tuesday for a big showdown with the Good Hope Raiders and Lady Raiders. Four quarters wasn’t enough to settle things in the varsity girls meeting between Good Hope and Hanceville and the Lady Raiders pulled away to win a tight one, 52-48 in overtime while the Raiders pulled away in the final frame to knock off the Bulldogs 72-61. Good Hope will be back home Friday to host Oneonta in an important area clash and Hanceville will be on the road that night for an area battle against Susan Moore.

Good Hope 52 – Hanceville 48 (OT) (varsity girls)

The Lady Raiders built a 15-9 lead by the end of the opening quarter, but Hanceville was able to go on a 10-4 run and tie the game at 19 early in the second. A basket from Kelly Pickett gave the Lady Bulldogs a 21-20 lead midway through the second quarter but a Rudi Derrick score put Good Hope back in front 24-21 with just two minutes remaining in the half. A three-pointer from Ivey Maddox gave the Lady Raiders a 27-23 lead with under a minute to play in the period and after a Pickett basket on the other end, Maddox drilled another three at the buzzer to put Good Hope on top 30-25 at the halftime break.

A triple from Bailey Tetro stretched the lead to 34-26 early in the third quarter but a triple from Jessica Thompson on the other end cut it to 34-29. Cassidy Campbell got a shot to fall for Hanceville to make trim the lead to 36-31 with under four minutes to play in the third and a Heather Tetro trey, followed by another Pickett layup, made it a 39-33 game with just over two minutes to play in the period. Another Pickett basket cut the lead to four, but Cayleigh Garmon scored on the other end to put the Lady Raiders up 41-35 with 20 seconds left in the third quarter. However, Campbell drilled a three-pointer with seven seconds left in the period to make it a 41-38 game going into the final frame.

Pickett scored six straight points to start the fourth for the Lady Bulldogs and give them a 44-41 lead, but Bailey Tetro answered with a three-pointer that tied the game at 44 with five minutes to play. Both teams cranked things up on the defensive end and kept each off the score board the rest of the way and despite getting some decent looks at the basket late in quarter, we went to overtime knotted at 44.

Katelynn Boyd scored to give Hanceville an early two-point lead but a jumper from Abby Neighbors on the other end tied things at 46. A pair of Pickett free throws put the Lady Bulldogs ahead by two with two minutes to play in overtime but a triple from Heather Tetro on the other end gave Good Hope a slim, 49-48 advantage. Things picked up again defensively, and neither team was able to get on the board again until Maddox knocked down a pair of free throws with six seconds remaining to go ahead 51-48 and she added one more from the charity stripe with just a couple seconds on the clock to secure the 52-48 win for the Lady Raiders.

Maddox led the way for Good Hope with 22 points in the win, followed by Heather Tetro with nine, Bailey Tetro with eight and Garmon with five. Pickett led all scorers with 25 points in the loss. Campbell added nine for Hanceville and Thompson finished with seven.

Lowe scored five straight for Good Hope to start the second half and take 38-34 lead but buckets by Morgan and Tyson Bellmon cut it to 40-38 at the five-minute mark of the third quarter. Morgan added a pair of free throws to tie the game at 40 and an 8-0 run by the Raiders gave them a 48-40 advantage with two minutes remaining in the third. A three-pointer by Malin made it 51-43 late in the quarter and Good Hope held onto a 54-47 lead going into the fourth.
