Obituary: Aaron D. Collett

Aaron D. Collett, 94, of Cullman, formerly of Attalla, passed away Friday, Jan. 3, 2020 at Cullman Regional Medical Center.

Mr. Collett, a WWII Navy veteran, spent the first part of his life in Attalla, AL married to Nell Jo Collett. While in Attalla, he was a longtime member and deacon at Cherry Street Baptist Church, he was a member and Chaplain at the Etowah County Rescue Squad and was an electrician at Plumbers Wholesale. He enjoyed his hobby of being a cattle farmer and working outside. He frequently attended the cattle sale at the Kilpatrick Stockyard. After Nell’s passing, he met and married Maxine Collett and relocated to Cullman. He continued his love of cattle and enjoyed going to the Cullman Stockyard.

He was preceded in death by both wives and son-in-law Ernest E. Basson.

He is survived by his daughter Billie Basson; step-son Joel (Elaine) Driver; step-daughter Mary (Clark) Boyd; granddaughters Angela (Lynn) Claburn and Victoria “Tora” (Bradley) Berry; step-grandchildren Joelle (Phillips) Brooks, Kelly (David) Corbin, Cindy (Michael) Martin, Victoria (Michael) Brown, Thomas Boyd, Kate Boyd (Benjamin Marchman) and Susan Boyd (fiancé Nathan Phipps); three great-grandchildren, 11 step-great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren.

His family will receive friends at Moss Service Funeral Home Monday, Jan. 6, 2020 from 9-11 a.m. The Celebration of Life Funeral Service will begin in the chapel at 11 a.m. with Bro. Jimmy Baker officiating. Burial will follow at Crestwood Cemetery in East Gadsden at 2 p.m. with Bro. Sammy O’Dell officiating.

After burial, the family will receive friends for a second visitation at Siberton Baptist Church in Attalla from 3-4 p.m.
