Jean Wakefield, 86, of Double Springs entered into eternal rest Jan. 2, 2020 at Hendrix Health and Rehabilitation. She was born May 7, 1933.
Mrs. Wakefield was a member of the First Baptist Church in Double Springs. She loved her family and church family. She enjoyed singing God’s praises and listening to gospel music.
Jean lived most of her life in Winston County. She loved growing flowers, watching birds and being outdoors. She marveled at God’s Creation. She and her husband, Buck, were cattle farmers for many years. She also loved traveling, playing cards and spontaneous outings.
Jean loved people! She worked in bookkeeping, as a teller, and retired in the loan department at Traders and Farmers Bank following 23 years of service. She received so much delight in assisting and serving her customers. She was a real asset to the banking staff because she knew everyone.
Jean graduated from Addison High School in 1951. Her senior class was the first class to be honored with a picture in the hall at Addison High School. She truly loved the school and the wonderful people in Addison. Her children remarked, “Every trip we made, we always came back through Addison.”
Visitation will be held Sunday, Jan. 5, 2020 from 1:30-3 p.m. at First Baptist Church Double Springs, where services will follow at 3 p.m. Reverend Shawn Blanton, Reverend Bill Frank Wilson, Dr. Bill Tittle and Reverend Phillip Twilley will officiate. Burial will be in Winston Memorial Cemetery.
Jean was married to Lloyd “Buck” Wakefield for 53 years, raising two sons and daughter Gary Wakefield (Karen), Gina Tittle (Bill), and Steven Wakefield (Kathy). She was Mama Jean to Josh Wakefield (Julie), Jobe Wakefield, Jared Courington (Whitney), Jordan Courington (Maddy) and Rachel Gilbreath. She adored her great-grandchildren Caroline, Grant and James Wakefield, and Maggie Courington. She is survived by sister Betty Porter and a host of other relatives.
She was preceded in death by husband Lloyd “Buck” Wakefield; parents Noah and Flora Cobb; brothers Raymond Cobb, Doyle Cobb and Marvin Cobb; sisters Nola Cleghorn and Obera Holt; grandson Steven Bradley Wakefield; and in-laws Howard and Lena Wakefield.
