CULLMAN, Ala. – The Cullman County Animal Shelter’s Donna Ruttkay reported that the shelter enjoyed some last-minute adoptions to finish out 2019. Now, it’s time to kick off 2020 on a high note for some animal friends hoping for a happy new year, so Ruttkay shares a bonus Pet of the Week:

Benny is a 1-1.5-year-old true “Heinz 57” pooch, described as a “combination of all that is sweet!” He’s a medium-energy pet who’s on the athletic side but not hyper. He’s well behaved, submissive to his people and a fast learner. He has good spatial awareness and won’t get in your way, and he’s developing skills on his leash.

Ruttkay said, “His splash of a permanent smile portrays his personality.”

Benny has the makings of a good therapy, companion, hiking or reading dog.

Benny’s adoption fee is $90 which includes: DHLPP vaccine, Bordetella vaccines, rabies vaccine, wormer, general exam at the vet, neutering, microchip, free 30-day health insurance policy issued by 24PetWatch (with valid email only) and a free bag of food from Cullman Pet Depot (you must pay sales tax).

Animal shelter staff and volunteers work with their dogs to make sure they are accustomed to being around people, walking on a leash and practicing good behavior. Several of the shelter’s dogs have even been “hired” to work as therapy and special needs service dogs.

Please consider adopting, to give a rescued pet a chance at a happy and healthy life.
