The J.W. Vest family enjoyed a reunion last Thursday.
From the Files of 1950:
Arvel W. Dowda drowned on Saturday night in the Tennessee River, after falling from a fishing boat. His brother-in-law, J.C. Mayfield said Dowda stood up to crank the engine of the boat, complained of chest pain and toppled into the water. Mayfield cannot swim and could not rescue Mr. Dowda. He is survived by his widow, Mrs. Gladys Dunlap Dowda, a daughter, Mrs. Maxie Jean, both of Birmingham, his parents, Mr. and Mrs. W.W. Dowda, a sister, Mrs. J.C. Mayfield and a brother, Billy Ronald Dowda, of Hanceville.
Mr. and Mrs. Euell Jones lost the contents of their house when the kitchen caught fire.
Doctor D.D. McAdory was awakened by his dog barking on Saturday night. He and his wife heard strange sounds. Doctor McAdory fired in the direction of the sounds with his shotgun.
A hat was found at the scene with holes and blood stains. It is believed that the thieves were trying to steal the McAdory car.
The Cullman Fox Hunters Association will hold a bench show and field trials on August 21-31 at Cullman High Athletic Field. Officers are: Thomas A. Mauldin, of Trade, President; Cell Thompson, of Baileyton, Vice-President and Elbert Kilgo, of Logan, Secretary-Treasurer.
A truck backed into the Leigeber Building on West Fifth Street on Wednesday afternoon and the entire south wall of the building collapsed.

Doctor R.B. Dodson, Doctor G.W. Bledsoe, R.A. Young and Doctor T.A. Robinson left on Sunday for a fishing trip to the gulf.
Mr. and Mrs. K. Poole, of Joppa, are reworking their house on the inside.
Mr. and Mrs. Jack Miller are adding a bedroom to their house.
Mr. and Mrs. L.H. Formby and Jane and Mrs. John T. Formby were the guests of Mr. and Mrs. M.W. Wamp and family, on Sunday.
Mr. and Mrs. Ossie Pitts, of Eidson Chapel have purchased a new refrigerator.
Mrs. Mater Bush has returned to her home in Nashville, Tennessee, after a visit with her niece, Mrs. Razzie Rice.
Ronald K. McCain, age three, son of Mr. and Mrs. Henry C. McCain, formerly of Cullman and now of San Jose, California, was killed on August 12th, when struck by an automobile.
