HANCEVILLE, Ala.- The Hanceville Police Department made several drug arrests Friday, Dec. 20 along County Road 545 after obtaining search warrants for two homes.
HPD Assistant Chief Adam Hadder explained, “Our patrol had been out there several times and it has been a problem spot. We’ve had several search warrants in the past and a couple of overdoses. We were able to get about 10 of our guys and hit the homes simultaneously and ended up making five arrests.”
Those arrested were Anita Whitehead, 46; James Nichols Davis, 36; Tammy Louis Whitehead, 38; Damian Blair, 41; and James Casey Nelson, 29, all residents of Hanceville.
While the bust did not produce a large quantity of drugs- approximately 6 grams of methamphetamine, some suboxone strips and marijuana, Hadder pointed out, “They sell to support their own habits, but 95% of crime is drug-related. One of the guys was already on state probation and just got out of prison a month ago. He was on probation for drugs and stealing.”
Davis was charged with unlawful possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia. The rest were charged with illegal possession of prescription medication and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Hadder said some of those arrested will have charges of unlawful distribution of a controlled substance added after consultation with the Cullman County District Attorney’s Office.
